In the fall of 2009, God began to stir in the heart of Bill Howard, the desire to have an impact in the lives of the children of Haiti who have no support system and little means to survive. Through much prayer and research Bill felt led to visit Haiti and see firsthand what God was doing there. During that visit in December of 2009 Bill established a relationship with missionaries Sam and Delores York and three special young men studying for the ministry.
In January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake struck the country killing more than 200,000 and leaving more than a million people homeless. Many of these homeless were young children who because of the quake, were left without parents, without a home and without any means of support. Also having a deep affect on Bill and Willow Ridge was the news that one of the young pastors, Alex Alincy, had died in the quake.
Seven days after the earthquake, Bill flew into the Dominican Republic, filled a rental car with food, water, and medical supplies, and ran relief missions across the boarder of Haiti. During that visit he also worked with Jimmy and Patrick Georges, the two surviving young pastors, in laying the foundation for the birth of a new orphanage. It was a dream of Alex’s to run an orphanage dedicated to rescuing children from the cruel streets of Haiti and raising them in the love and care of God. Remembering that dream, Pastor Bill, Jimmy and Patrick birthed this orphanage to the glory of God and in memory of Alex Alincy and his desire to serve God by serving children.
